mostly for my own reference but I thought these might be useful to some of you too.

- For any yarns that can be felted together I spit splice to join the ends, but recently I've been knitting with a lot of non-feltable yarns. I'm really liking the back join detailed on Tech Knitting (one of my favourite blogs and definitely one of the most useful) as a way to join these yarns.

- I always, always find myself looking up how to calculate evenly spaced decreases along a diagonal edge (or increases). Here's a detailed explanation but the pithy formula is:

Divide number of rows by number of increases, take the closest lower and higher even numbers to this number.

(Total rows - (smaller even number*total incs))/2 = number of times to work decreases spaced over higher even number of rows.

Subtract this number from the total number of decreases to get the number of times to decrease at the lower rate.

- When working on seamless yoke sweaters worked from the bottom up things get a bit awkward just after the body and sleeves are joined. [photopress:DSCF5639.JPG,full,pp_empty]

The simplest way to deal with this is to pretend you're doing magic loop. About halfway across the sleeve stitches pull the right needle tip to create a loop of the cable and carry on knitting.

- Simple self sealing sandwich bags are useful for keeping yarns separate when working with several colours. This is what I'm doing for stripy. Doesn't completely prevent tangles but it certainly helps. [photopress:DSCF5645.JPG,full,pp_empty]

Speaking of Stripy, I haven't forgotten about the tutorial I just haven't had a chance to work much on it.
